NSE Co- Founder Dies at 89

The Nigerian engineering world lost
one of its icons to the cold hands of deathvon the 8 th of July , 2013 in the mould of Engineer Olateju
Oyeleye FNSE, FNAE, FNIM, OON.
The late Engr. Oyeleye was a co-founder of the Nigerian Society of Engineers alongside Chief G .O .
Aiwereoba in 1958 after a series of mobilization meetings that came to fruition with a general meeting that formed the Nigerian Society of
Engineers (NSE ) at the Nigerian House in London .
He was made the pioneer Secretary -General at that meeting and in 1976, he became the President of the body.
Late Engineer O lateju Oyeleye who was born on the 7 th of April 1924 , had his early education at
St . Peter ’s Anglican Primary School and later Ilesha Grammar School , where he graduated in 1942. Late Engr. Olateju Oyeleye was a man with great attributes like determination, courage and
perseverance that helped him to navigate through life in various capacities in organizations like
Ferguson Radio Corporation in U .K, WNTV , Total
Nigeria PLC and Nigerian Communications Commission.
His leadership ability was displayed as he held many leadership positions right from university days where he was President of African students Publicity Officer of the University Students' Union through to his post university days where he became Secretary- General of NSE President of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE ) , President of
Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM ) and a host of others.
During his lifetime, the late engineer was a man of many firsts as he was the first Nigerian General
Manager of Western Nigeria Broadcasting Services , WNBS -WNTV ( the first television station in Africa ); he was also the first Nigerian to be a General Manager in Total Nigeria PLC , just to mention a few. He bagged many awards and honours prominent among which are Fellowships of
Nigerian Academy of Engineers , Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE ), Nigerian Institute of Management
(NIM) as well as a national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON ).
Engr. Olateju married Mrs . Funke Oyeleye ( nee Smith) who died in 1978 and later married Comfort Olubunmi Oyeleye ( nee Awolowo) in 1979. The late engineer has six children some of who are practicing engineers .
