GIST OF THE DAY: Nigeria: 'Ban Rendered Six Million Okada Riders Jobless

The Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association
of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) says over six million of its members have been
rendered jobless due to the ban imposed on the operation of commercial
motorcyclists by some state governments in the country.
National president of the association, Alhaji Sanni Moham-med, disclosed
this to our cor-respondent yesterday during the ACOMORAN's National
Executive Council meeting in Lagos.
He said the development is sad, especially at the time when Nigeria is
facing unemployment crisis.
He said the association is not deterred by the development as it is
currently negotiating with First Bank Plc and other financial institutions
in the country to give its members loan to purchase tricycles for
commercial use.
