Two schools and a church have been broken into this week, with suspects using rocks and crucifixes to get into the buildings Essex police say burglars are targeting schools and churches to play violent video game Grand Theft Auto V. Thieves are breaking into schools and churches across Chelmsford to steal projectors, which can be used to play the video games. Two schools - Boswells School and Boreham Primary School - have had their windows smashed in this week. St Andrew’s Church vestry door has also been smashed with three crucifixes. “Police think they’re targeting projectors to project Grand Theft Auto,” said Boreham primary head teacher Ian Bowyer. “As a head teacher I am staggered at the ages some parents let kids play the game at,” the father-of-three told the Essex Chronicle. “We had an e-safety meeting with staff the very same day and it was made very clear to us children as young as six were using it. This is shocking and this comes out in these children’s writing, how they speak and how they behave with other children. “All they want to do is play with guns and all they want to write about is guns and violence .” The Boswells School headteacher David Crowe added: “It wouldn’t surprise if that was the motivation. They’d just project it onto the wall.” The 18-certificate game was released to eager fans on September 17, and has received worldwide critical acclaim. It is set to become one of the most successful games of all time, making more than £1 billion in the first three days of sales alone . In GTA5 you control a trio of criminals and take part in several heists and crime sprees. The latest reported burglaries follow a string of more than 40 incidents in Chelmsford this month alone.
