This were the words from The Chairman of the Universities Needs Implementation
Committee and Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam “We are making progress in the negotiations and we
hope that we will be able to solve this problem soonest.
The stage that we are now we are hoping that when we
meet next week, we should be able to conclude on the
discussion.”
“The fact that we were unable to conclude today does
not mean that the meeting is deadlocked; very fruitful
meeting and I believe that when we meet next week, we
will arrive at some conclusion. That is what I can tell
you.”
This also are the words from the minister of finance who was also in attendance at the meeting held on tuesday“At present, ASUU wants the government to
pay N92bn in extra allowances when resources are not
there and when we are working to integrate past
increases in pensions. We need to make choices in this
country as we are getting to the stage where recurrent
expenditures take the bulk of our resources and people
get paid but can do no work.”
If the demands of the university lecturers are met and
“we continue to pay them salaries and allowances, we
will not be able to provide infrastructure in the
universities”.
So what type of fruitful meeting did they have?
